Tram infrastructure in Sheffield for Stagecoach Supertram

South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire Area.

Having carried out several other jobs on the tram infrastructure in Sheffield for Stagecoach Supertram, Level Crossing Installations (LCI) were appointed to undertake the crossing works required at their Nunnery Depot in April 2012.

The existing crossings at this key facility were of timber construction and in a poor state of repair, having been patched with concrete, tarmac and metal plating in places; whilst the fact that the depot consisted of S&C track and contained little in the way of straight lines, further complicated matters.

Working closely with us to establish the best way to install new crossings at the depot and accommodate the complexities of the track structure, it was agreed that we would replace the existing materials with new Holdfast rubber panels, individually cut to fit, to take into account factors such as:

• Check rails
• Points
• Fishplates
• Track circuit bonds
• To satisfy ongoing track maintenance access requirements

This involved our highly skilled and suitably trained operatives cutting the panels to size using chainsaws to produce the following results:

In addition to the bespoke cutting of the rubber panels to fit each track situation, we also carried out the required line marking works and completed the job within the agreed budget and timescales, very much to the satisfaction of Stagecoach Supertram’s depot management.
